Born in Sinaloa, México and raised along the USA-Mexico border, Fernando Gaxiola earned an engineering degree from the prestigious Tecnológico de Monterrey and two MBAs, one from his alma mater and a Global MBA from the #1 ranked international business school Thunderbird School of Global Management in Phoenix, Arizona. A natural born entrepreneur, Fernando launched his first business management consulting firm in 2003 at the age of 26.
Soon after, he became a business management consultant for the Oil & Gas industry in which he focused on processes, marketing and strategic planning – an experience which afforded him the opportunity to travel all around the world. He later returned to his roots to apply his knowledge toward promoting the Tijuana-San Diego mega region. His passion for food, wine and art led him to found Baja Wine + Food, the leading travel, event, and lifestyle management agency in the San Diego-Northern Baja region.
His company specializes in providing extraordinary cross-border experiences to corporate and private clients worldwide. Soon after, in pursuit of expanding his knowledge of wine, he completed his Certified Sommelier Examination by the Court of Master Sommeliers, Americas. Additionally, he has partnered with LMA Wines to import and distribute a premier portfolio of Baja wines from the most prestigious wineries in Valle de Guadalupe, Baja California. As part of his ongoing strategy to promote Baja culture in the US. In 2017 he founded the Valle Food & Wine Festival that became the most important food and wine event in the region attracting some of the best chefs in the world.
CHEF DAVID CASTRO HUSSONG

David Castro Hussong was born in Ensenada, BC in 1990, and graduated from the French Culinary Institute ICC in Campbell, CA. He comes from a family dedicated to the culinary world for generations, that’s how at the short age of 13 starts his cooking experience working at ‘Hotel Punta Morro’ with chef Juan Antonio Hussong and later on at ‘Sano’s Steak House’ with Juan Hussong and ‘Laja’ with Jair Téllez, a chef pioneer in Valle de Guadalupe.
After highschool he decided to move to San Diego, CA where he would work at ‘Barbarella’s’ and ‘El Take It Easy’. A few years later the opportunity to work again with Jair Téllez shows up with the opening of ‘Merotoro’ in Mexico City. In search of something different, he moved to Copenhagen, Denmark where he was a practitioner under Chef René Redzepi at ‘Noma’, considered the best restaurant in the world. In 2013 he moved to New York where he worked with legendary Chef Dan Barber at ‘Blue Hill at Stone Barns’ and ‘Blue Hill’ in Manhattan. He would later also work for chef Daniel Humm at three Michelin star restaurant ‘Eleven Madison Park’.
In 2015 he opened ‘Cala Restaurante’ in San Francisco, CA alongside famous Mexican Chef Gabriela Cámara. In 2017, the opportunity to return to his origins was presented and he moved back to Ensenada to open Fauna Restaurant in Bruma, Valle de Guadalupe, which is considered one of the best restaurants in México and Latin America. In 2020, amidst the pandemic, he opened his second restaurant in Bruma called “Wine Garden”. Soon after, he opened “LaMari” in Mexico City, the hottest new restaurant in 2021.
ALEX DEPUE & MIGUEL DE HOYOS

Alex DePue began studying classical violin at age five. He won his first university-level competition at age 10, soloing with the Bowling Green State University Symphony Orchestra, and later (age 14) won a competition which entitled him to a performance at NYC’s Carnegie Hall, serving as Concertmaster under the direction of Joseph Silverstein for the National Guild Youth Symphony Orchestra. He continues to appear as guest soloist with orchestras at music festivals worldwide.
Despite decades of intense classical training, Alex became interested in fiddling at age seven, and began competing in “fiddle” contests. He reigned as the Michigan State Fiddling Champion from 1994-1998, won the first-place trophy at the Walnut Valley National Fiddling Championship in Winfield, Kansas in 1999 and 2005, first place in the Halletsville, TX “Gone to Texas National Fiddling Championship” in 2000, first place in the Alabama state fiddle contest in 2006 and 2007, and first place in the California State Fiddle Championship in 2007. Also in 2006, he was deemed, “Fiddle King” in Athens, AL (Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention). Alex served as a judge at the National Oldtime Fiddling Championship (Weiser, ID) in 2008, and in 2010 and 2011, won first place in the Twin Fiddle division while ranking among the Top 10 finalists in the Grand National Championship division. www.fiddlecontest.org
From 2007 – 2010, Mr. DePue joined legendary rock guitarist, Steve Vai, for a world tour that took him across North America, South America and Europe. 2010 continued celebration for Vai’s 2009 DVD release, “Steve Vai: Where the WILD THINGS Are” (a live concert music-movie co-featuring DePue), its Grammy nomination for “Best Live Rock Instrumental Performance” (at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards and Gold Record (award issued to each band/cast member) from the Recording Industry Association of America in recognition of “Gold” sales status in both the US and Canada (Platinum Award from the Canadian Recording Industry Association). Throughout his work with Steve Vai, Mr. DePue was introduced to, and then subsequently teamed up with Mexican guitarist, Miguel De Hoyos. Ever since, the duo’s unique international sound garnered interest from elected politicians and officials within the country of Mexico, and their spectacular musical performances have been praised by popular English-written publications; The Gringo Gazette and Baja Times, and more press from US publications (i.e., Kansas City Tribune, Toledo Blade, San Diego Union-Tribune, etc.). Alex and Miguel released their first recording, “Underground Whispers” in 2009 and their most recent recording, “Twisted Strings”, are both available online at www.alexdepue.com . “Alex DePue with Miguel De Hoyos” performed in Rio de Janeiro as special guests for the global launch of “ArtsGames”, an effort to bring the arts back into the International spotlight in conjunction with the Summer Olympics (August 11th, 2016).
